AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- About a third of the way through the regular season, the Washington Wizards are at .500. Thats progress for a team thats looking more and more like playoff material in the Eastern Conference. "Its big, and we know where we want to be," swingman Martell Webster said. "At this point in the year, its a time weve got to get rolling. When teams start to click, the offensive and defensive schemes start to be all muscle memory." John Wall scored 29 points and the Wizards became the latest team to rally past Detroit in the fourth quarter, beating the Pistons 106-99 on Monday night. Washington scored the first 11 points of the fourth, a run capped by Websters 3-pointer that put the Wizards ahead 89-87. Detroit never led again. Brandon Jennings had 15 points and 14 assists for the Pistons, who have lost five of six. "We had a nice game going for three quarters, but we didnt keep playing," Detroit coach Maurice Cheeks said. "We got stagnant, and they ran pick-and-roll and kept scoring, and we didnt. In the fourth quarter, it comes down to who makes plays." Trevor Ariza scored 15 points for the Wizards, who also beat Detroit 106-82 on Saturday in Washington. The Wizards have won five of six. "Games like this are hard, especially the way we won the one back in D.C.," Washington coach Randy Wittman said. "We knew these guys were going to come out and really come after us. That first half, they did." Bradley Beal scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half for Washington. The Wizards (14-14) are at .500 after 28 games for the first time since finishing the 2007-08 season 43-39, according to STATS. "We came back and fought in the second half," Wall said. "Most of their points in the first half came on second-chance points and they killed us in the paint. We just came in at halftime and said we have to rebound." It was another frustrating loss for Detroit, outscored 28-12 in the fourth quarter. The Pistons (14-19) have also blown comfortable fourth-quarter leads at home against Portland and Charlotte during the latter part of December. The Wizards led 101-97 with a minute to go, and Detroits Josh Smith had his driving attempt blocked by Marcin Gortat. Wall connected from near the elbow at the other end to make it a six-point game. Detroit led 63-53 after an up-tempo first half. During one sequence, Greg Monroe dunked over Wall to give the Pistons a 24-19 lead, only to have Ariza answer with a 3-pointer seconds later. Detroit rookie Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored a career-high 17 points, all in the first half. In the second quarter, he missed a dunk on a fast break, but the Pistons came up with the ball and Caldwell-Pope was able to spot up for a 3-pointer to put Detroit ahead 49-44. "I really had a rhythm going in the first half, but I couldnt get it back in the second half. I was trying to loosen up and get back into that same feeling, but it didnt happen," Caldwell-Pope said. "They didnt take anything away from us. We just stopped moving the ball. Weve got to finish games and make plays in the fourth." The Pistons entered the game leading the NBA with 14.4 offensive rebounds per game. They had 14 in the first half against Washington. "You cant allow that to happen," Webster said. "We wanted to come out in the second half and take that away." Detroit had only four offensive rebounds in the second half. NOTES: Detroit G Rodney Stuckey (shoulder) did not play. ... Wall went 14 of 15 on free throws. The Pistons could have used some of that marksmanship -- they went 2 for 9 in the first quarter and 21 of 35 for the game. ... Wall reached the 20-point mark for a seventh straight game. Commissioner Roger Goodell said Irsay is barred from team facilities, practices and games and cannot represent the Colts at NFL meetings or events. The fine is the maximum allowed under league rules. "I have stated on numerous occasions that owners, management personnel and coaches must be held to a higher standard than players," Goodell told Irsay in a letter released by the NFL. "We discussed this during our meeting and you expressed your support for that view, volunteering that owners should be held to the highest standard." The 55-year-old Irsay pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour count of driving while intoxicated and acknowledged during his appearance before a Hamilton County judge that he was under the influence of the painkillers oxycodone and hydrocodone when he was arrested March 16 near his home in the Indianapolis suburb of Carmel. Irsay did not comment outside the courtroom, but he apologized to Colts fans in a prepared statement. "I am committed to do everything in my power to turn this whole experience into a positive event for myself, my family and the community," he said. "In retrospect, I now know that the incident opened my eyes to issues in my life that needed addressing and helped put me on the path to regain my health. I truly hope and pray that my episode will help in some small measure to diminish the stigma surrounding our countrys terrible and deadly problem of addiction. It is a disease." Irsays case was closely watched around the NFL -- not least among players -- because there are few examples of the league punishing an owner like Irsay. Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand was suspended for 30 days and fined $100,000 in 2010 for violating the NFLs personal conduct policy following his guilty plea to driving while impaired. A player with a first-offencemisdemeanour DUI would not be suspended and would be fined no more than $50,000 under terms of the collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association. Police said an officer spotted Irsay driving slowly, stopping in the roadway and failing to use a turn signal. Officers said he had trouble reciting the alphabet and failed field sobriety tests. Various prescrription drugs were found in his vehicle, along with more than $29,000 in cash.dddddddddddd Irsay acknowledged in 2002 that he had become dependent on painkillers after several years of orthopedic operations but said he had overcome the problem. Irsay will be on probation for a year and is prohibited from drinking or possessing alcohol during that time. He must submit to drug testing during his probation and successfully complete a substance abuse rehabilitation program. Less than 48 hours after his arrest, the Colts said Irsay had entered a treatment facility. Irsays drivers license also was suspended for one year by Judge J. Richard Campbell, who asked Irsay about his history of prescription drug troubles. "Yes, Ive had it in the past ... when I was dealing with the effects after having surgery," Irsay answered. Andre Miksha, the Hamilton County chief deputy prosecutor, said Irsays case wasnt handled differently than the roughly 1,100 other intoxicated driving cases the office handles each year. He said the "vast majority" of such cases end in plea agreements. He also said the terms of Irsays plea agreement are typical for a person who faced first-time driving while intoxicated charges in the county just north of Indianapolis. Irsay had resumed his duties with the Colts at the NFL draft in May and even made an unsuccessful personal pitch to his fellow owners on behalf of Indianapolis bid to host the 2018 Super Bowl. Irsay became the Colts owner in 1997 after the death of his father, Robert Irsay, and a lengthy legal battle with his fathers second wife. Forbes magazine has estimated Irsays net worth at $1.6 billion. He has helped build the Colts into a top NFL team over the past decade behind quarterback Peyton Manning, now with Denver, and was a key player in the drive to bring the Super Bowl to Indianapolis two years ago. He is working with some success to rebuild the team behind young quarterback Andrew Luck while coping with a divorce that follows a decade-long separation from his wife of 33 years. Irsay told the judge he is still under the care of a doctor and an orthopedic specialist who prescribe medications for him. Under terms of his probation, Irsay must provide officials with all current medication prescriptions. The NFL said Irsay will be subject to ongoing treatment, counselling and testing as determined by doctors. Irsay, who is active on social media, is also forbidden from discussing the Colts or NFL on his Twitter account. ' ' '
