HOUSTON, Texas - The Blue Jays lost a sixth-straight game on Friday night, 12-4 to the Astros in the first of three at Minute Maid Park. It marked the fifth-straight game, dating back to the first game of a doubleheader in New York on Tuesday, in which the Blue Jays scored first but couldnt hold the lead. Edwin Encarnacion (32,) J.P. Arencibia (20,) and Brett Lawrie (10) hit home runs for Toronto. Ryan Goins, a 25-year-old native of Round Rock, Texas, made his major league debut and went 2-4 with a single and a double. He had family and friends in the stands and enjoyed playing in a stadium where he attended games growing up. "Playing your first game, somewhere youve been, you know the surroundings, you know what it looks like so I think it was good," said Goins. Todd Redmond (1-2, 4.44) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs over 3 1/3 innings. After the game, the Blue Jays optioned reliever Brad Lincoln to Triple-A Buffalo. WANG TO START SATURDAY Chien-Ming Wang will be recalled in time to make Saturdays start against the Astros. "Hes been up here, hes a seasoned vet," said manager John Gibbons. "He had some good starts for us. He was doing fine down there. Everything kind of fell in line." In five starts for the Blue Jays between June 11 and July 2, Wang went 1-1 with a 7.12 ERA. He went at least 6 1/3 innings in each of his first three outings but didnt escape the second in either of his final two appearances. In 17 Triple-A starts this season, nine with the Yankees affiliate in Scranton and eight with Buffalo, Wang is 8-7 with an ERA of 2.72. Even with rosters scheduled to expand on September 1, barring the unforeseen, Wangs stay in Toronto likely wont be a long one. "I think we just need that one start, the way its going to turn out with that doubleheader and that off day," said Gibbons. Mark Buehrle is scheduled to pitch Sundays finale in Houston. R.A. Dickey will open the Yankees series in Toronto on Monday, thereby making Esmil Rogers available out of the bullpen this weekend. BAUTISTAS FUNDRAISER Jose Bautista and a few of his teammates will be busy on Thursday, an off day, taking part in the first annual Jose Bautista Celebrity Golf Classic. Taking place at Eagles Nest in Maple, the days proceeds will go toward the Bautista Family Educational Fund, a charity Bautista founded in 2011 to help young amateur athletes access higher education. Bautistas focus is his native Dominican Republic, although the foundations work has extended to Canada. "For your typical kid from the Dominican Republic that comes from the poorer part of society, which is 80-percent of the population down in the Dominican, its not like they have a lot of options," said Bautista. "A lot of them, when they dont play sports, they have to start working at a very early age. The ones who are able to play sports and end up being good at them, most of the time they get pulled out of school to go to one of those boarding houses that house a lot of players and try to groom them into becoming the next professional baseball player." Some kids see baseball as their only way out of poverty. Bautista knows their chances of making the big time arent good. He wants to give them an alternative. "From the kids that drop out of school (to focus on baseball) its less than three percent, the success rate after that three percent signs in professional baseball is about the same getting to the big leagues and establishing themselves." Bautista says hed have liked to have started the annual golf outing earlier but because the foundation relies, in part, on corporate investment, it had to clear hurdles with the NCAA to ensure beneficiaries could maintain amateur status. Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Reyes, Brett Lawrie and J.P. Arencibia are among the Blue Jays who will participate in the golf day on Thursday. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Toronto Blue Jays are on the verge of their best road trip to Tampa Bay in years. Mark Buehrle allowed four hits over 8 2-3 innings, Jose Bautista homered twice, and the Blue Jays beat the Rays 3-0 on Wednesday night. With a victory in Thursday nights game, Toronto would stop a streak of 20 consecutive winless road series against the Rays. The Blue Jays, who have won two of three against the Rays to start a four-game set, havent won a series at Tampa Bay since April 2007. Of the 20 series, the Blue Jays have lost 19 and split one. "Obviously, it hasnt been a good place for this team," Buehrle said. "Hopefully come out and take this series tomorrow and get off to an even better start." Buehrle (1-0) struck out 11 and walked one. "It was a tremendous game for him," Toronto manager John Gibbons said. "A great effort, I dont know how else to describe it." It was just the second career double-digit strikeout games in 430 major league starts for Buehrle. The other was a 12-strikeout game on April 16, 2005, against Seattle, while with the Chicago White Sox. "That ball was running, ducking, and darting," Gibbons said. Sergio Santos entered after Ben Zobrist had a two-out single off Buehrle in the ninth and walked Evan Longoria. Brett Cecil then struck out pinch-hitter Matt Joyce for his first save. Bautista put the Blue Jays ahead 1-0 on his first homer of the season, a solo shot off Matt Moore (0-1) in the fourth. Dioner Navarro made it 2-0 later in the inning with an RBI single. Toronto went up 3-0 on Bautistas second homer, a towering solo drive to left off Josh Lueke during the seventh.dddddddddddd It was the sluggers 22nd multihomer game. "For the most part their offence was centred around one guy. He can do that kind of stuff," Rays manager Joe Maddon. Moore gave up two runs, six hits and three walks in 5 2-3 innings. The Blue Jays had runners on first and second with two outs in the first when Longoria got a forceout at third after leaping to catch Navarros grounder that went airborne after hitting the base. Toronto third baseman Brett Lawrie saved a run in the fifth when he made a leaping catch on Sean Rodriguezs liner with a runner on a second. "Our defence was amazing," Buehrle said. "If they dont make some of those plays, Im not out there probably past the sixth inning. It was a perfect storm. Everything worked out." Notes: Tampa Bay RHP Chris Archer and Blue Jays RHP Brandon Morrow are Thursdays scheduled starters. Archer and the Rays agreed to a $25.5 million, six-year deal on Wednesday.
