The East finished with 260 yards of offence. Kloss opened the scoring with a 39-yard field goal midway through the first quarter. The kick completed a game-opening 14-play, 58-yard drive engineered by Duke quarterback Anthony Boone. Kloss made it 9-0 on 30- and 47-yard field goals in the final 5 minutes of the half.
