FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Anyone who bought an Osi Umenyiora No. 90 jersey after he signed with the Atlanta Falcons is going to be in for a surprise. The defensive end is now wearing No. 50. Umenyiora took the practice field Wednesday donning the new number after working out a swap with young linebacker Pat Schiller, who spent last season on the practice squad and is back to take another shot at making the team. "My folks said they didnt like didnt like 90 on me," Umenyiora said. Why? "I dont know," he replied. "They just didnt like it." Umenyiora has been on quite a numerical journey after signing with the Falcons during the off-season, having spent the first decade of his career with the New York Giants. He wore No. 72 with the Giants, but that number belonged to Atlantas top offensive lineman, Sam Baker. Umenyiora chose No. 90, but that only lasted through two preseason games. After being urged by his parents to switch, Umenyiora asked about 58, only to be told that number was unofficially retired by the team after being worn by longtime Falcons linebacker Jessie Tuggle. The next choice was 57, but Umenyiora ran into the same issue -- that number was once worn by Falcons great Jeff Van Note and is no longer given out. So, Umenyiora settled on No. 50 -- which may be more appropriate, anyway, given hes been lining up a lot at outside linebacker during the preseason with Atlanta trying out a 3-4 alignment. Linebackers generally wear numbers in the 50s. Of course, changing numbers meant working out an arrangement with Schiller. The second-year player couldnt resist having a little fun when asked about the negotiations. "I definitely came out on top," Schiller said. "He took me to all-you-can-eat Golden Corral." Playing along, a reporter pointed out that Umenyiora got off for about $10 -- not bad for a guy who signed a two-year, $8.5 million deal with the Falcons. "Is that what it costs?" Schiller said with a straight face. "Well, I loaded up on the rolls. I very much stuffed my face." Umenyiora chuckled when told of his teammates comments. "Is that what he told you?" Umenyiora asked. "It was a little more expensive than that. I took care of him." Schiller gets the last word in these negotiations. "Theres a rumour going around a Bugatti," he said, referring to one of the worlds most expensive cars. "But you can see the parking lot. Its not in there." china jerseys . Canada will host the second stop on the circuit, the 2014 Skate Canada International in Kelowna, British Columbia from October 31 - November 2, 2014 at Prospera Place. Our still-stunned US sportswriter, Alex Ferguson, gives you four things to think about from the Warriors incredible season…. On Thursday night, NBA legend Kobe Bryant said goodbye to the sport by scoring 60 points, but the biggest heroes of the night were the Golden State Warriors, who reached a sporting pinnacle with a regular-season record 73 wins (from 82 games) with a victory over Memphis - beating the 1995/96 Chicago Bulls 72-10 record. But how where they able to do it? Changing the game Our columnist on how Steph Curry is changing basketball Is this the greatest team ever?By sheer wins, yes. The truth, however, is that we simply dont know. Were comparing sides from two different generations. The 2015/16 Warriors team is no doubt more athletic, but the 95/96 Chicago Bulls had Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman as well as a ton of talent elsewhere. But how do you deal with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala?Remember this: Chicago Bulls won the 1996 NBA title, the Golden State Warriors - although they are favourites to lift the trophy - have not done so yet. If they do, then we can continue the conversation. Who do we thank for all the victories? In the second-to-last game at San Antonio, Curry dropped an unbelievable 37 points as the Warriors gave the Spurs their first home loss of the year. Curry is a brilliant three-point shooter (successful with 45.4 per cent of his attempts), assist-giver (6.7 per game), and ball-stealer (2.1 per game), and hes so, so much fun to watch. Steph Curry has smashed records as well in a memmorable season so far And he scores a ton of points too (averaging 30.dddddddddddd1 per game), and you cant overlook the impact of Thompson. You can also thank the fact that they didnt have the injuries that other teams have had, and the fact that theyve got a great coach in Steve Kerr is also a benefiting factor. Should Steph Curry win the MVP?Curry has been outstanding throughout his teams run to the record. Hes hit three-point shots from nearer the half-way line than the three-point arc, and hes certainly not selfish, either. Is there anyone else in with a shout? Quite honestly, no, unless you want to yell for LeBron James. How good is Steph Currys supporting cast? Very, very good. Thompson, the other half of the Splash Brothers, averages 22.1 points per game.Draymond Green dominates both defensively and offensively (9.5 per game total). The talent is frightening and built for another title run. Will Golden State win the title?Golden State are favourites for the title, thats for certain. But will they? San Antonio, who finished second in the Western Conference with a 67-15 record, should battle them all the way in the semi-finals (or the Western Conference Finals, in US terms). And if they get there, they are almost certain to face LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, favourites to emerge from the Eastern Conference and a team as dangerous as anybody. There are no guarantees, but no one would argue with you if you put some cash on the Warriors to win it all.
